2-Butanol is produced by absorption of an isomer mixture of butene to 65 per cent sulfuric acid at 5-10 oC and subsequent hydrolysis.
2-Butanol is an excretory product from bacters. In the wine and brandy production it is undesired. It occurs in high concentrations in fruit spirits and is typical for this kind of brandy.
