Usage

1-propanol is used as a solvent in pharmacy (especially for outwardly used drugs) as well as in cosmetics, as a skin disinfectant and industrially as a solvent for paints, oils and other materials.

Synthesis

Technical synthesis is done Co-catalysed by reaction of Ethen with Carbonmonoxide and Hydrogen (Oxosynthesis), priliminary under formation of Propanal, which is further hydrogenated to 1-Propanol.

  • Congener of alcoholic beverages
  • Metabolic product of bacterial decay processes
