Spirits are alcoholic beverages intended for human consumption with special organoleptic characteristics and - apart from advocaat - with a minimum alcohol content of 15 Vol%. The definitions are regulated in the regulation (EEC) No. 1576/89 together with the implementation instructions (EEC) No. 1014/90. As spirit, however, beer, wine, sparkling wine and their products as well as denatured ethyl alcohol or not denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80 Vol% alcohol content do not apply.
